Winter League 2018-19

From Steve Blunt:

Following several years when Ruthin and other local clubs have played friendly matches one Sunday each month to keep the tennis season going through the winter, Tennis Wales North started a winter league this year.

Summer regulars Ruthin, Denbigh and Prestatyn each entered two teams and were joined by a team from Wrexham.

Matches were played at home and away on Wednesday evenings under lights, and very few had to be rearranged due to bad weather even though frostbite was a hazard on some nights.

Ruthin 1 came second to a strong Wrexham team, and Ruthin 2 were in 6th place as this note was being written (a couple of fixtures still to be played by other clubs).

A total of fifteen different players took part for the two Ruthin teams, including a few who have not played league tennis before.

The Winter League has been very popular with all the clubs we met, and should continue in future years.  Now there are just 5 weeks before the Summer League begins, and Ruthin are back to four men’s teams and two ladies’.
