Benefits of competitive sports from young age

“In my case, I can sincerely say nothing is impossible.” – Novak Djokovic

Dear DLTC tennis lovers,

If you had the opportunity to compete in any sport when you were younger,  you might agree with me about the great feeling that is winning your first tournament. Probably many of you still remember that day like it was yesterday or when you visit your parents you may have accidentally seen your old trophies and medals in that old wardrobe along with pictures and other memories.

If someone asks me if they should encourage their children to compete in any sport,  I would definitely say … Do it! The benefits of competing in any sport from a young age are vast.

Promotes a healthy life style from a young age, helps with their physical development,  keeps them active, motivated and focused.

Fair play and respect  are very important in any sport. Children will learn to understand and follow the rules of the sport they are playing. They will learn to consider, treat with respect and always keep an acceptable behavior towards the opponents, coaches referees, other fellow team members and even crowd whilst they are having fun.

Competitive sports also promotes, team work  and leadership and self-confidence which are valuable skills they will need in the future. They will learn to manage success and failure. Loosing and winning is just part of life and is important for children to learn how to cope with both in order to have a happier adulthood.

Kids will also develop their social skills. We all know the importance of friends when you are young and  even more when you are the only child. It is just incredible but I still remember the names of some of the children I used train with and believe it or not I am still in contact with a few of them.

Just remember, let your children enjoy and have fun!... let them loose and win…! It is just a game !

At Dulwich LTC we run tennis tournaments  for adults and children all year long. Stay tuned for information of upcoming tournaments or visit our social media accounts.

Thank you and see you at the Dulwich LTC Tournament,
