Yes, we are still an

AWARD-WINNING TENNIS CLUB

Everyone is welcome at our friendly, welcoming tennis club at the heart of the Derwent Valley community - with the only indoor tennis court in County Durham. New members are always welcome, and we have something to offer for everyone - from a fantastic coaching programme for beginners through to performance players, and Tots Tennis to Rusty Racquets for adults, to friendly social tennis and competitive tennis at all levels with over 30 teams.

Our latest activities are:

WALKING TENNIS - open to all at 1.00pm every Monday and 2.00pm every Thursday.

Equipment provided - just turn up in your trainers and have fun!

Shotley & Benfieldside Tennis Club is proud to have been selected by Durham & Cleveland LTA as its Club of the Year 2022, at the same time as our Head Coach David Esther was selected Performance Coach of the Year. In recent years we have also won the Community Impact Award at the Sport Gives Back Awards held in London in March 2020. The Award recognises the quality of work the Club, its coaches and volunteers have done working in partnership with Sport Works in engaging disabled and special needs children from the Derwentside area in tennis and other sporting activities.

This Award follows our successes at the annual Durham & Cleveland LTA Awards ceremony, where our Head Coach David Esther was runner-up in the Coach of the Year Award for 2019, and the Club followed up the award of LTA CLUB OF THE YEAR 2017 (as well as Derwentside Club of the Year) with nominations as Club of the Year 2018 and 2019.

Shotley & Benfieldside Tennis Club organises a broad range of non-tennis events to encourage members to enjoy social activities together while helping to support the Club by raising income. 

Coaching for Kids and Adults

Our Coaching programmes operate in blocks of weeks, usually coinciding with school terms. All sessions take place at Shotley & Benfieldside Tennis Club.
