When Buying a Tennis Racket

Inforrmation on junior Tennis Rackets 

Length of racket ? 

* Length of racket - should depend on height of the player. 

* The racket should not touch the ground when held by the junior with his/ her arms at their side.

* Junior rackets start at 17" , then 19" , 21" , 23" , 25 " and 26 ".

* Taller juniors ( 11plus ) may play with a 27 " racket but this is considered to be an adult racket size.

Weight of racket ?

* For junior players with a small build, it can be beneficial to avoid buying a racket that is too heavy.

* The weight of a tennis racket is measured in grams.

Handle grip size

* Junior rackets come with handles with three grips size options , size 2  , size 3 , and size 4.

Cost of racket

* Rackets get more expensive as they get longer.

* The difference in price between length Junior rackets is not particularly large.

* There is a significant price jump between 26" Junior racket and a 27 '  Adult racket ( different technology and materials ).

* Lighter rackets are often made from more expensive materials and consequently tend to be more expensive to buy. 

Size of the ' head ' ( hitting surface

* It is possible to buy some rackets with a larger head and these tend to be the norm for the shortest rackets ( Mini-Reds / Orange )

* For older Junior , a large versus regular racket head size becomes a matter of choice. 

Racket manuafacturer

* The major manufacturers for junior rackets are ; Wilson , Babolat , Prince , Head , Slazenger.

* Top Tip ; check that the manufacturer also make tennis bags if you may want a same brand bag in future.
