The tournament had been bedevilled by a rash of injuries and withdrawals that perhaps were to be expected as all involved got used to arranging matches and fitting it in around holidays and work.
The tournament was organized with qualifying groups leading to semi finals and finals on the same basis as League matches to give players the chance to play some additional competitive tennis.
Following the decision to run a closed tournament over the summer months Men’s finals day took place on Sunday 9th September.
The Men’s singles final played in warm but very blustery conditions saw youth in the form of Archie Stokoe beat experience represented by Andrew Gentry 5-7, 6-3 1-0. Both players struggled to control the ball in the wind in the first set before Archie’s superior ball striking saw him win the second set and cruise through the final championship tie break.
The Men’s doubles final saw Andrew Gentry using the experience of the conditions gained in the Singles to team up with player of the match Rob Leigh to overcome Adrian Booker and Ian Ratford who despite some good play found themselves unable to overcome big early deficits in both sets losing 6-2,6-3.
