NEW DAYTIME BOX LADDER

For players who only want to play before 4pm, a daytime doubles box ladder has been introduced. The rules are similar to those for the standard doubles box ladder and a copy can be found here: Rules

The idea is to enable players to find their own level over time. This means beginners and competition virgins are encouraged to join in as well as the champions. This competition is for all members aged 14 and over.

Matches in the current round must be completed and scores entered by Sunday 13th August 2023:

Round 6: -29th Dec 23

SINGLES (DANDI) LADDER COMPETITION for everyone!

A tennis ladder is a type of internal tournament based on the principle that, wherever you start on the ladder, you can challenge players above you so that, if you win the match, you take their place on the ladder. It is different from the singles box ladder we had been playing for a couple of years because there are no time-limited ‘rounds’. The current round start date is 24/04/23.

Key features that distinguish it from the singles box ladder are:

All club members aged 17 years and above are automatically entered into the Dandi Singles Ladder. If you/your child is 14 years and over but under 17 please contact stowtennischair@gmail.comk if they would like to enter. The ladder gets its name because not having to opt in promotes diversity and inclusion (Dandi for short). Too often members say ‘I don’t think I’m good enough’ and that is not true in this competition
A Junior Singles Ladder will be launched again shortly, into which all club members aged 10-17 years will be entered automatically. Those aged 14 years and above may also play in the Dandi singles ladder
All genders of player will be in the same ladders
There is no obligation to play any matches (if you feel you cannot play singles at all or do not enjoy singles; or are injured, ill or busy) but, conversely, you can play as many matches as you like in any given time period.

DOUBLES LADDER

The Doubles Box Ladder introduced in 2020 has been replaced by a Doubles Ladder, where players aged 14 and above of any gender enter as a pair and play as many matches a month as they want. The winners move up the ladder, displacing the pair they beat. The idea is to enable players to find their own level over time. This means beginners and competition virgins are encouraged to join in as well as the champions.
