Christmas 2022

Club

FATHER CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY TO THE TENNIS CLUB!

The Club has all had a wonderful present from Mid Suffolk District Council today.

The Committee has been working on our long term financial plan since the AGM, which found a gap in the funding for the LED scheme approved in principle by members in March 2020. We confirmed the lifespan of the current court surfaces and the cost of resurfacing them; and also estimated the remaining lifespan of the dome skin. We continued to work up a scheme to upgrade the bathrooms in the clubhouse and replace the doors and windows with double glazed units - raising £9,000 towards the cost from local Councillors budgets this summer.

Mid Suffolk has contributed £25,000.00 to our capital projects. This will mean:

  • The clubhouse work will start on 4 January and should be finished by the end of the month;
  • The double glazing will be done at the end of January
  • Court 1 will be resurfaced on or about 22 March 2021 and take about a week;
  • The LED scheme can now move on to selection of a contractor and, hopefully, replacement of the halide lamps with LEDs in or about April 2021.

We will have enough money to resurface Court 5 and the dome skin when they need redoing (not expected to be 2021).

We hope that, after a difficult year for everyone, the improvements at the Club will enable us to have a great 2021 once Covid is being effectively managed through vaccination. If the whole world was as sensible as the Club's members have been this year, we might have had less sadness. Thank you to everyone for putting up with the restrictions on your tennis this year, and for keeping each other safe.

Merry Christmas everyone!
