Competitive Team Update

Mixed Team

Under the stewardship of captain Jodie Goodall, the mixed team look to be well on course for the top two in Barkston Ash Division 3 this season. Its unclear exactly what is required to take top spot as the league website isn't updated all that often: Barkston Ash Website, but the team have won 5 from 6 and look well positioned to make that 6 from 7 with victory away at Barwick this evening: Mixed Results.

This will surely leave a potential title decider away in Wakefield later this month. Whatever happens, its been a fantastic second season for the team, one which has seen more than no fewer than 10 different players showcasing their talents: Jodie, Helen, Dan, Brent, Craig, Ian, Sam, Des, Abi, Sue.

Mens A Team

Having started afresh in the Leeds Mens Summer Doubles league in 2020, the A team have achieved back to back to back promotions, all the way from Div 7 to Div 4.

This campaign, with two defeats in the opening five fixtures, it looked like four in a row might be a step too far. Successive 7-1 defeats to huge clubs in Chapel Allerton C and Sandal B within the space of three days in May left Will Woodrow's side floundering in 3rd place. Since then though, they haven't really looked back and seem to have re-found their knack of always doing enough to win close contests with two 5-3 sets wins and a 6-2 result, meaning they have won 5 on the spin, sitting comfortably in the promotion spots: Leeds League Div 4

As usual the core of the team is the four of Will, Clint, Brent and Sam, with the latter named pair sitting atop of the divisions player statistics rankings. One match remains with a win needed against Pudsey to definitively seal promotion, though with Will and Brent both away on holiday, squad depth will be tested: Mens A Results

Mens B Team

The B team only began to ply their trade last season, and have since become one of the biggest success stories of the club, paving the way for youngsters and veterans alike, aswell as those who hadn't previously played much doubles but are really enjoying the test. After a season of finding their way, they are going great guns this time round and look very well poised to make an assault on the Division 7 promotion spots. With four games still to play, there is less clarity than with the mixed or the A team but the boys currently sit in 3rd, crucially having played a game less than 1st placed Thorner with just a single point deficit: Leeds League Div 7

Teenager Joshua Roberts deserves a special mention, sitting in 2nd place in the divisions player rankings, winning 20 of 32 sets this season: Div 7 Player Stats, his partnership with the wily and experienced Craig Derry continues to go from strength to strength. Also featuring heavily have been Dan Phillis, captain Lindsay Edgar, aswell as the likes of George Barker and Craig Redmond.

Its a tight knit division and all eyes will be on the matches against Almscliffe next Monday, and Roudhay E the following Sunday: Mens B Results
