October 2021
The summer season may be over and what a brilliant season of tennis we have had. The nights are
drawing in but tennis is still happening at Tain and we do hope to see you out on court having fun
while working on your fitness and skills.
SUMMER CAMPS
John’s four day camp for juniors is underway this week, just bring your child along, there is no need
to book. John plans to resume Saturday morning coaching after the holidays.
Next week Scott will be hosting Junior camps all bookable on line. In the new term, after school
coaching will resume hopefully, within TRAC for the younger children. Scott will send out details of
all coaching opportunities he is running nearer the time.
JUNIOR COMPETIONS
We are very proud of the boys in the 9&U team who won their first match in the North of Scotland
Winter League at Dunblane, Andy Murray’s home town. It’s the first time Tain has ever entered a
team into this league, the boys made the most of it and visited Andy’s Golden post box where they
proudly posed for a photo. Great effort by the supportive parent’s and by their coach Scott. Check
out our FB site for photos.
JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
This competition was held over two days the turn out was good and great fun was had by all, the
improvement in all players was on show. On day one the 8&U boys singles took place with six taking
part in a round robin the winner was Ethan and the runner up Ryan Sutherland. The afternoon saw
eight boys competing in both the 14&U doubles and singles. The singles trophy was awarded to
Kieran Allen, the runner up was Kyle Corbett. The doubles saw Kyle and partner Archie Simpson
triumph over Kieran and partner Fraser Kennedy.
Day two saw five players in the 10&U age group they played a round robin the winner’s trophy was
awarded to Brodie Murray, Ryan Sutherland earned the runner up medal. Marcus McAulay won the
18&U boys singles in a high quality, close final against runner up Kieran Allan. This match was
decided in a match tiebreak. The 18&U boys doubles was won by Kyle Corbett/Kieran Allan against
Marcus McAulay/ Liam Macrae. Big thanks to Scott for all his organisation.
SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
The early rounds of this competition were all played in good spirit and in good time. We were
delighted to welcome some first-time players and are really proud of their efforts. We have high
hopes that more of our members join in this competition next summer. It may be that we will resort
to twisting a few arms so watch out!!
The Mixed doubles was an epic game with Joanie & Dave Whiteford narrowly edging to a win over
Sarah Marr & Gordon Brown.
The Men’s singles was won by Martin Treacher in three sets against 15yr old Marcus McAulay.
Joanie & Jackie Neill triumphed in the Ladies Doubles over Susan Gunn & Sarah Marr in an evenly
fought match.
Two of our top juniors paired up with more seasoned players in the Men’s Doubles, it was great to
see 13 yr old Kyle Corbett shining against older and more experienced players. Marcus & Gordon
won in three sets over Kyle and Scott in a match which showcased some outstanding shots.
Joanie triumphed over Sarah to take the Ladies Singles title, this was the 25 th time Joanie has won

this trophy, she even made the P&J with an interview celebrating her playing career but with the
emphasis firmly on her hopes for the development of junior tennis and especially girl’s tennis within
Highland.
The prestigious award for the most improved player was deservedly won by Mark McAulay.
The Club is grateful to John Waring for organising the tournament and to Eveline for all her work
behind the scenes.
SOCIAL MEDIA
In an effort to raise the club profile we want to encourage you to share the club posts with any local
community groups you may be members of and of course with your friends. We aim to reach
Alness, Invergordon, Milton and Dornoch as well as Tain and the Seaboard. If you don’t want your
image to be shown in club photos please let us know and don’t include yourself in the line-up.
What’s App: This way of communicating with our members is of great benefit to the club, our desire
is that it should be used to foster a sense of community and love of the game, always positive in
nature. Should a member wish to convey criticism of the club or a complaint please contact the
committee via email: taintennis@gmail.com or phone the president Bruce Rose, Tel: 07377357767
We are always striving to improve our club so feel free to bombard us with your suggestions.
MAINTENANCE MATTERS
We want to make all the parents of younger children aware that the red yew berries that can be
seen on the courts at this time of year are highly poisonous. As such should not be touched it is
really important that you inform your children of this. The club is making every effort to remove the
overhanging branches and clean up but we can’t guarantee that they won’t be dropped by birds
onto the courts so please warn you children and supervise toddlers if they are playing court side.
Flood lights: Joanie is still working hard to secure funding to help us renew our flood lights with LED
lights but in the mean time we are trying to come up with a temporary solution to the complete lack
of lighting on Court 3. If you can help or know of any way to help us please get in touch.
MEMBERSHIP
Our half price Autumn/Winter membership packages are now available online, if you are thinking of
joining but are not quite sure, why not try a taster session? We offer two free club sessions or
contact any member to take you along for a hit. Hopefully you’ll then get the tennis bug.
