Doubles:
The Boys Doubles was played as a Round Robin with four pairs, many competitive games were played which were well fought and enjoyable to watch. Marcus and Angus ran out as the overall Winners winning all three matches. Kieran and Kyle came second Winning two out of three matches. Liam and Alexander third Winning one match and Lewis and Lawrence whilst putting up sterling resistance were fourth.
Singles:
The First Round of the Singles was played and Marcus beat Liam, Kyle beat Lawrence, Kieran beat Lewis, and Angus and Alexander featured in the match of the day; first flowing one way then the other, with eventually Alexander coming out on top 5/3, 4/2.
The 3rd and 4th Play-off was quite a tussle with both boys pulling off superb shots with many very impressive rallies. Kyles eventually ran out the Winner 4/2, 4/2. Well done both of you.

All the games were a delight to watch, but the game of the day and as good a game that I have seen for many a year at their ages was the Final between Marcus and Kieran. It started with Marcus playing his usual brand of attacking tennis, swinging the ball side to side with Kieran playing his usual defensive game returning the ball consistently, but eventually the set went to Marcus 4/2. The second set started in similar fashion and then Kieran opened up his game and started coming into the net more and being more aggressive with well placed returns. At 4 all there was a 7 point Tie-break which was evenly fought out until the last 2 points when Kieran showed the courage to come up with a couple of special shots which won him the set, making it one set all.

Now the scene was set for an epic 10 Game Championship Tie-break. Out came the 2 Gladiators!! In the beginning it was all going Marcus' way building up an 8/3 lead and looking all the part the Winner - BUT NO - Kieran wasn't having this. His game started coming alive with a combination of impressive defensive shots and introducing more attacking shots. This took Marcus by surprise and try as he may he could not stem the flow. Eventually Kieran won the Tie-break 11/9 and became deservedly the Club's Junior Champion for 2018.

This was as good a game as one would wish to see and one deserving of the way in which our juniors have progressed this year. Definitely one for the parents to be proud of and one which signals a fine future for both the juniors and the Club.
