Meet the team
Check the Contact page for details to get in touch.
President: Scott Helyer (pictured)
Scott Helyer, aka 'Mr BBQ', has been a member of TLTC for seven years and has had various roles on the committee, starting as Improver Representative. He will always be known for his BBQ buying and cooking skills – with hundreds of tasty burgers/sausages being devoured by the hungry TLTC members!
Vice President: Matt Jacks
Matt Jacks is an active social member, and more recently a passionate and committed member of committee and the 6th team. He is excited to be getting more involved as Vice President, and is keen to hear any requests or ideas on how we can make our club a better place for all.
Honorary Treasurer: Andy White
Andy is a relatively new member of the club, having joined just over one year ago. One of the big attractions of joining the club was the number of social tennis sessions available, and the warm welcome given to all levels of player – so when asked to be Treasurer he happily (or maybe foolishly!) accepted. Nevertheless, he looks forward to working with the committee and keeping the numbers in check.
Honorary Secretary: Asha Menon
Having been a one win wonder in the mixed doubles' handicap tournament in the dim and distant past, Asha joined the committee last year before volunteering for the role of temporary Club Secretary. She then decided to take it on as a permanent role even after discovering what that really entailed! Her challenge for this year is to see how she can manage to stay on top of the work load. She looks forward to a fun and harmonious year ahead.
Head Coach/ Honorary Membership Secretary: Anthony Mills
Anthony’s aim is to introduce people to tennis and other members of all ages and standards in a fun and motivational way. He tries to help members and non-members to improve their tennis and be as social and as competitive as they have the desire to be.
Communications Manager: Matt Bugler
Matt Bugler's tennis career may have peaked with successive U18 Mixed Doubles titles at the club championships, but he's excited about managing the new website and running the newletters and social media accounts. Get in touch for queries about the website and events promotion, or just for tips on how to replicate his backhand!
Ladies’ Captain: Kate O'Brien
Kate is the new Ladies' Captain after taking over from Sophie, who did a fantastic job for 12 years. Having been Ladies' Captain at her previous club, Kate is aiming to get everyone involved with Teddington as much as possible – from team training, to social tennis on and off court, and enjoying what this top club has to offer. If anyone is looking to join the teams or has any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Men's Captain: Henrik Petersson
When Henrik joined three years ago he was skeptical about going to team training at 8:30pm on a dark and rainy Monday evening, thinking no one would be there. However, he was proved wrong – with a full house every week and great tennis at all levels. Since then he has made good friends over a drink in the bar, and is proud to represent the teams this year.
Bar Chairman: Andy Spragg
Andy Spragg is probably better known as Cheryl Spragg's better looking other half. They joined Teddington when their son Liam began playing as a junior around 2002. As Bar Chairman Andy's aim is to make the bar area a place where all members can come and enjoy themselves in social gatherings.
Courts and Grounds Manager: Tom Folley
Tom wishes that someone had taught him how to hit a tennis ball when he was younger, but is a firm believer that a positive attitude and a cheeky drop shot can make up for a lack of technique and consistency. As the member looking after courts and grounds, he is your go-to contact for problems and upkeep around the club.
Fixtures Secretary: Jonny Williams
Safeguarding Officer: Sue Neale
Sue Neale is the biggest Serena Williams fan at TLTC. The closest she gets to her idol is probably her massive forehand (watch and learn Matt Bugler) and her stylish tennis gear. She has been a successful team captain in the recent past and is fully commited to working hard to be the best team player that she can be.
Junior Membership Secretary/Safeguarding Officer: Andy King
As father of two children at the club, Andy is proud to represent a section which is in such good health that a lot of juniors could play him off the court! Andy’s ambitions for the junior section are that it stays that way and that all the juniors enjoy their time at the club.
Junior Representative/Safeguarding Officer: Stuart Simler
Stuart is always keen to push the boundaries of creativity in tennis, but not always able to manage this with his racquet! Stuart brought ART to the club in 2011 in a Big Draw event that encouraged local children and their parents to not only take part in artistic activities, but also play and learn about tennis.
Intermediates Representative/Safeguarding Officer: Lieske Tombokan
Lieske Tombokan started as a tennis mum then joined as a beginner tennis player. She is progressing with enthusiasm on and off court, as Safeguarding Officer and Intermediate Rep. She is hoping to recruit more beginners to join the Intermediate section, who will be happy to learn this wonderful sport.
Midweek Representative: Pauline Alldridge
Pauline has been a member of TLTC for over 20 years, playing social tennis, team matches and club competitions – five times being in the final of the ladies handicap tournament. She is now the Midweek Captain and is proud to represent an important section of the club.
Improvers Representative: Lee Neale
Lee's tennis career peaked a very long time ago when he won four successive veterans titles at Richmond. His role of Improver Representative is perfectly suited to his game style as he is always looking to improve – and his long-term ambition is have a backhand like Matt Bugler!
Student and Young Adults Representative: Sarah Jackson
Sarah Jackson is proud to be the Student and Young Adult Rep at the club. She wants to see loads of young people playing tennis and is willing to have a hit with anyone who doesn't mind regular drinks/chatting breaks.
Member of the Committee: Zara Ramprakash
Zara has been a member of TLTC for 20 years, has played team tennis for all of that time and was Ladies’ Captain for several years. She is a glutton for punishment and back on the committee for a second stint. Zara has made some of her best friends at TLTC, and Friday tennis followed by coffee with the girls is without doubt the best bit of her week!
Member of the Committee: Bob Cheshire
Bob Cheshire has been a club member for over 20 years, and a committee member for much of that time. He was responsible for implementing the bar extension and decking to the clubhouse in 2005 and negotiating the club lease. Bob has played match tennis for almost 50 years and has worked his way from the 3rd to 5th team by virtue of his 'experience'.
