Wimbledon Aftermath and New Artificial Courts

The Championships for 2018 came to an end this weekend past, with Novak Djokovic completing his resurgence and Angelique Kerber impressively dispatching of the equally extraordinary Serena Williams in straight sets.

A special mention must also go to Brits Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid who won the Wheelchair Men's Doubles for the third consecutive year! Jack Draper of GBR also reached the Boy's singles final at the age of just 16.

I am certainly suffering from post Wimbledon blues and the World Cup ceasing (and not coming home...) within a few hours of Novak lifting the trophy did not help matters.

Playing tennis yourself is undoubtedly a great way to overcome Wimbledon not being on our screens and with this heatwave (longest heatwave since the 70's) showing no signs of letting up, get yourselves down to TLTC.

Club Champs and Court Resurfacing

Speaking of getting on court, we are now some months into our Club Championships 2018 with many round deadlines set for 22nd July. The resurfacing of our 3 red courts is nearly upon us so please make a concerted effort to get the next round (or two) arranged so we can wrap up the tournament in early September on time.

The court resurfacing will be taking place from 24th July until 1st September. We are excited to upgrade our 3 red courts to brand new artificial clay that is sure to provide a different court feel when compared to the pace of the green courts.

The bounce will, as the name suggests, play like a clay court so it's time to dust off those topspin forehands and be prepared to grind, Rafa Nadal style! The courts will need to be swept once used but this is something that I'm sure we will all get used to very quickly.

The Club Championships Finals Weekend will see the first demonstration of these courts and this takes place over the weekend of 1st/2nd September.

Court Apparel

Not to be a bore.. but just a friendly reminder that although it has been a scorcher of a summer, and of course short sleeves and shorts will be worn, if we can keep it to tennis kit only and shirts on at all times, that would much appreciated for all our members!
