Lancashire success at British Seniors Grass Court Championships

Last week's British Seniors Closed Grass Court Championships part of the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour saw great success for players across Lancashire.

Esther Kitchen from Leyland in her first ITF Masters Tour event beat 4th seed and then the top seed to make the final of the Ladies 40 & Over Singles. In the final Esther played Susie Azoulay who played fellow Lancastrian Liz Bennett in the semi-final, Liz unfortunately had to retire injured. Susie proved too strong in the final but nonethless a great week for Esther.

Christine Baron finished Runner Up in the Ladies 75 & Over Singles event. In the Doubles event Christine and her partner were beaten by topseed's fellow Lancashire players Dorothy Bamber and her partner Carol Davies.  Dorothy and Carol went on to finish Runners Up in the Lades 75 & Over Doubles event. Dorothy also got to the final in the Ladies 80 & Over Singles event.

In the 35 & Over Men's Singles event Simon Roberts progressed through the draw beating the top seed in the semi-finals and Jon Maskens who beat the 2nd second in the final. Well done to Simon who was crowned the British Seniors Closed Grass Court Championships 35 & Over Men's Singles Champion.

Well done to all the players who represented Lancashire.
