14 & Under Team Success

It was a great weekend for our 14 & Under teams with the Girls team progressing to the National Finals and the Boys team winning their group.

14 & Under Boys

Captain:             Andy Watt                 Assistant Captain:          Phil Rimmer

Team               Zach Allen, Samuel De Lange, Janko Grime, Jai Kochhar and Rohan Ramdass

Our Boys team started the Saturday morning in Wrexham against Isle of Man with a strong 6-0 win and finished the rain hit day with a 4-0 win over Shropshire, the doubles events not taking place due to the bad weather. This meant the Boys topped their group and played against the winners from the other group Nottinghamshire for the title. Sunday morning saw more bad weather with play eventually forced indoors, Lancashire got off to a steady start drawing 1-1 after 2 singles. Samuel and Rohan then won two tight singles matches to take it to 4-1 with the doubles still to play. Nottinghamshire however put on a inspired doubles display winning both the matches to take the tie to 3-3. This meant a doubles match tie break to decide the winners of Group 2e! After much nail bitting Lancashire won the shoot out to be crowned winners.

Well done everyone!

14 & Under Girls

Captain:             Sabrina Federici                 Assistant Captain:          Keely O’Keeffe

Team               Haniya Arien, Naina Kapoor, Mariam Meftah, Elizabeth Rimmer, Mia Tinsley and Zara Todd.

The Girls team were in Play Group 1a, which meant that if they won they gained a place in the finals which was to be in Nottingham later this month. It was going to be a tough ask with Cheshire, East of Scotland & Yorkshire as our opponents.

First up was Yorkshire where the girls started really well winning 4-2 after match tie break wins by Elizabeth and Haniya. Next up Cheshire who had lost to East of Scotland. Not to be for Lancashire after a great fight from the girls we lost 2-4. This meant that it was all to play for on Day 2 at Holcombe Brook as all 4 teams had won the same number of matches.

Sunday we took on East of Scotland, a match tie break win and a match tie break loss meant a 2-4 loss however it wasn't all over. Cheshire and Yorkshire were in fierce battle, if Cheshire won they would go through to the Finals, if Yorkshire won we would go through to the finals! To a match tie break shoot out it went with Yorkshire winning, Lancashire were through to the finals!!

Well done to all the players, parents and captains who supposrted the team throughout the nail bitting weekend.

Good Luck to the Girls in the Finals on 12-14th May at Nottingham Tennis Centre.
