Great weekend at 18 & Under County Cup

It has been a successful weekend for our 18 & Under Boys and Girls County Cup teams.

The Boys in Division 1 at Bath knew they were in for a tough weekend with the top 4 teams in the Country. The team had been training since September so captain Andy Davies was confident in boys ability and team spirit.  The boys started on Friday with a great 6-3 win over a strong Sussex team with a especailly great performances in the doubles rubbers with all 3 matches won by Lancashire in match tiebreaks.  Saturday saw Lancs lose 7-2 to a very strong Yorkshire side who would evenutally go on to be crowned National Champions. Sunday saw the boys play Essex with them knowing that every match counted in their quest to stay in Division 1 for next February. The boys lost 5-4 and were equal drew on rubbers won/lost with Sussex so it was down to their head to head which Lancashire won  for the boys to finish Runners Up Nationally a great achievement after a very long day!

The Girls captained by Janelle Brooks made the journey down to Bromley to play in Division 2b and suffered a tough 5-4 loss to Warwickshire on Friday and then lost 6-3 to Sussex on Saturday. The team knew they needed to win on Sunday to be in with a chance of staying in the Division next year. After some strong singles performances and two great doubles wins in the match tie breaks the girls won 6-3. It was then dependent on the result from one of the other matches, after a tense wait the girls  found out that they finished 2nd in the group by 1 rubber! A great team effort.
