12 & Under Girls

Team                   Annabel Benson, Anya Grady, Chyna Jiang-Simpson, Naina Kapoor and April Sackflame.

The girls automatically qualifed for the finals without having to play the qualifying event so the team were looking forward to getting on court together on Thursday afternoon at South Ribble before heading down to Nottingham later that day.  After a good night's sleep the girls were excited for the first matches of the day against a strong Kent side. Due to the bad weather the matches were shorterned to just 1 set to 4 games, after the singles matches the fixture was tied at 2-2. In the doubles the girls also split the rubbers so it was now 3-3, match tie break time! The girls battled very hard in wet and windy conditions to win the  shoout out and beat Kent! The weather had now improved slightly so the girls started their singles matches against Avon, after some close matches Lancashire came out on top and were 3-1 up when play was stopped for the day. Saturday saw the girls start with their doubles matches against Avon which the girls won securing a 5-1 win.  The last team in the group to play was Surrey, after strong singles performances the team were 3-1 with 2 doubles matches to finish the group stages. Naina and April put together a solid performance to beat the Surrey pair 4-2,4-3 but the other Surrey pair who too strong for Chyna and Annabel. That meant a 4-2 win for Lancashire and a place in the final!!

Sunday saw the final between Lancashire and Essex who topped the other group. Another great start in the singles saw April, Naina and Anya win their matches with Annabel losing on a match tie break, 3-1 Lancashire.  It was all on the doubles which are key to the event as has already been proven! April  and Naina won their match 4-0, 3-4, 10-2 closely followed bu Annabel and Anya who won thier match 3-4, 4-1,  10-5 to secure  5-1 victory over Essex and be crowned LTA 12 & Under Girls County Cup National Champions!
