LTA President visits Lancashire

Tennis Lancashire were honoured to have Sandi Proctor officially visit Lancashire for the first time in her role as LTA President.

During her visit, Sandi attended the Tennis Lancashire Ltd Annual General Meeting, which was held at Hightown Sports Club, and also presented the county’s LTA Awards at the annual presentation ceremony.

The annual LTA Awards recognises the coaches, venues, volunteers, schools and other organisations who have enjoyed success over the past twelve months, as well as special awards from Tennis Lancashire to the County’s most successful players and teams.

During the presentation, Mike McBrien received the LTA Meritorious Award to recognise his many decades of service to tennis in Lancashire.  The award, which is presented at the discretion of the LTA President, coincided with Mike retiring from his role as Chairman of Tennis Lancashire. Mike is known throughout Lancashire and further afield as someone with a deep love of tennis, who is extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic and always available to help in any way he can. It was a fitting end to Mike's time as Chairman to have the President herself present him with this award.

Sandi was then accompanied by members of the Tennis Lancashire board to Formby Village Sports Club, the first tennis club in the County to build Padel courts at their venue. In less than one year, the club have enjoyed tremendous success with membership now reaching its capacity due to the popularity of Padel.

Sandi and the other volunteers took part in the game of Padel, under the guidance of Tennis Lancashire’s Padel Ambassador, Jan Mort before enjoying a cup of tea and piece of cake provided by the generous hosts, Formby Village Sports Club.

Tennis Lancashire would like to thank Sandi for taking the time to visit the County to meet so many of the people who involved in the sport across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside and we wish her every success for the remainder of her presidency.
