Fourth place finish for 11 & Under Girls in National Finals

Our 11 & Under Girls team spent the weekend battling it out with the best in the Country and came a very respectable 4th place.

11 & Under Girls

Captain:             Dave Hillier               Assistant Captain:          Ella Taylor

Team                 Annabel Benson, Anya Grady, Holly Jones, Naina Kapoor, Anna McKenna and April Sackflame.

The team met early on Friday morning and travelled down to Wrexham knowing they had a tough weekend ahead of them. Drawn in Group A the girls would play Avon, Middlesex and Surrey in the round robin box, Group B included Essex, Hampshire & IOW, Kent and South Wales.

First up on the Friday was Middlesex, a 2-2 result after singles with wins from Naina and Annabel meant it was down to the doubles! After a tricky start with both Naina/Annabel and Anna/April losing the first set both pairs fought back to win the second set and then the match tie break giving Lancashire a 4-2 win to start the weekend.

Next up was Surrey who would go on to finish Runners Up. After 2 match tie break singles wins for Naina and April against two players in the top 5 in the Country the score was level at 2-2, down to the doubles again! The doubles saw a straight sets win for Naina and April but a straight sets loss for Anna and Annabel, 3-3. Match shoot out time! Naina and Anna, one person from each pair took on Surrey in a match tie break to decide who the winners of the tie were, Surrey unfortuantely came out victorius.

Saturday saw the team take on Avon with the round robin group very close! After a great 3-1 start winning 2 match tie breaks it wasn't to be in the doubles with Naina and Holly losing out 10-12 in a match tie break, final score 3-3 and another match shoot out, another match shoot out loss for Lancashire. Avon win. Despite teh loss to Avon, Lancashire still finished 2nd in the group and would go onto play Essex on the Sunday for 3rd place.

With the weather holding up we started off the day with 2 losses, Anya lost her singles match in a shoot out and Annabel also lost, next up April and Naina who fought right to the end securing match tie break wins! 2-2 down to the doubles! It wasn't to be in the doubles with Naina and Holly and April and Anna losing their matches, Essex win 4-2.

It was a great weeeknd of tennis for the girls with lots of great skills on show and great team work, lots of matches were won/lost on the tightest of margins. The girls were a credit to Lancashire.

4th place, well done girls!
