What will County training matches look like?
Each match may be slightly different depending on age groups, opponents, venue and timings. We know the best players are able to adapt to different situations and these matches are a chance to practice these skills. County Coaches will work together to get the most out of the fixture.
How will I travel to the matches?
The County Coach will advise you on the venue, start time and any other information you may need. Players will be expected to make their own travel arrangements and meet the County Coach at the match venue at the agreed time.
For away matches we recommend that parent / guardians of players in the team coordinate journeys to save on travel costs.
How much does it cost?
The matches are subsided by Tennis Wales but there will a small charge to help cover the cost of running the matches. This includes court fees and coach costs.
Will the matches count for ratings and rankings?
These are training matches and will not count for ratings or rankings. The focus is on the opportunity to develop and learn from competing.
Who will coach me at the training matches?
Each team will have a 1-2 team captains. These will be LTA Accredited+ coaches from Wales.
How will players be selected for the matches?
County training matches spread across the year and selectors DO NOT follow the County Cup Selection Criteria (which is based on LTA Ranking or LTA mini tennis rating). The North Wales County Training Coordinator and South Wales County Training Coordinator will liaise with the relevant Age Group Head Coach to select a team for each match. They will also work with the opposing county organisers to ensure that the players can get the most out of the day.
