IOM Tennis Players compete in the UK

Over the Easter period Orry Farnworth and Sean Drewry, travelled to compete in the UK. Firstly they went to Roehampton in London, Sean attending as coach for Orry, who had made it into qualifying for the Grade 1 U 16’s Boy’s Nationals. In his first round match Orry defeated Rafe Samuel 6-3 6-3. In the next round he came up against Harry Abel, ranked 13 in Great Britain, Orry pushed him all the way only just losing in a 3rd set Championship Tie-Break 10-8.

Whilst in London both Orry and Sean had entered the Grade 3 Westside Classic Tournament , both in the Men’s Singles and teaming up together in the Men’s Doubles. In his first match Orry bt Victor Enciso 6-1 6-1, this set up a round 16 match against Sean. Sean managed to come through 6-4 6-2. In the Q/F Sean bt the 4th Seed Harry Hewing 6-3 6-2. In the S/F Sean lost to Kim Sikka 6-3 6-2.

In the Men’s Doubles Orry and Sean won their Q/F 6-2 6-2 against Luca Fasciani/Theo Turton. In the S/F they had a very close match against Nabil Alizadeh/Ryan Papazov eventually winning 4-6 6-4 10-6. The Final turned out to be a topsy turvey affair against James Hutchinson/Nathan Mansfield, but in the end they secured their third Grade 3 Men’s Doubles Title 6-1 1-6 10-7.

From London they travelled on to Wrexham for Orry to compete in the Grade 2 Boy’s U 16’s Singles , unfortunately he was drawn against the Number 1 seed Matthew Upton, Orry put up a good performance before losing 6-2 6-2.

They then moved on to play in a Grade 3 event on the Wirral, Sean and Orry in the Men’s Singles/Doubles , with Orry also playing U 18’s Singles/Doubles. In the Men’s Singles Sean lost to the eventual winner Rafael Kiss 6-1 2-6 6-10, Sean went on to win the consolation event. Orry won both his R 16 match 7-6 6-4 against Charlie Woods and then his Q/F 7-5 4-7 10-3 against Chris White. In the S/F he played the 2nd Seed Harry Lumb, losing 6-2 6-1.

In the Men’s Doubles Orry/Sean won their Q/F 6-3 6-4 against Louis Harvey-Mitchell/Thomas Herbert, in the S/F they lost to the pair who went on to win the Final, Rafael Kiss/Harry Lumb 6-1 6-2. In the U 18’s Doubles Orry partnered Anthony Hardman, they won their Q/F 6-2 6-2 against Josh O’Meara/Carwyn Tam before losing 6-3 6-3 to Finn Logue/James Rigby in the S/F. In the U 18’s Singles Orry won his Q/F 6-1 2-6 10-3 against Harry Jackson, in the S/F it was a long match with Orry just losing out to Brennan Foster 7-6 6-4.

In between tournaments Orry/Sean were able to continue their training at the Skupski Tennis Academy. A great fortnights tennis , with some excellent wins.
