The IOM Boys U8 Tennis team competed off island last weekend in the North Group County Cup. The majority have the squad have only played tennis for around a year so it was a great experience for all boys.

The first match saw us compete against Cheshire boys. Despite some excellent performances from Albert Orton and Tommy Jelly, the boys lost to Cheshire. All matches were very competitive and it was a brilliant introduction for all of the boys.

The second match saw us come up against favourites Lancashire. Lancashire had some very experienced players who all had played from a very young age. Despite this, the IOM ran them very close on several matches, with stand out efforts from Tommie Manuja and Albert Orton. Lancashire won comfortably despite the fighting spirit the IOM showed.

The final match saw us take on North Wales. We won 6/10 matches and there were again some fantastic all-round performances. Albertus Herbst, Arthur Orton & Tommie Manuja had some brilliant singles matches and it was topped off by some superb doubles play at the end of what was a fantastic day of tennis.

This is the 2nd IOM junior county tour this season, and we plan to take the all other age groups over to the mainland to compete during the next 12 months. We will also be encouraging all IOM junior players to compete in both on island and off island competitions in order to build up their match play experience. 

A big well done to Tommie, Tommy, Albert, Arthur & Albertus for their performance and attitude on tour. A special thanks to their parents also who have been very supportive.
