Finals Day!

The first Finals Day in over 2 years produced some quality tennis by some familiar faces. The weather did not dissapoint either, with only a quick shower to cool off our tenacious players.

First up was the doubles matches. In the men's category we had Alex Brown and Chris Waite versus Simon Halls and Alejandro Lorenzana on court 5, whilst on court 2 were the women's doubles featuring Jenny McCloud and Maria Lawton versus Helen Frost and Nicky McRobert. Simon and Alex won their match in two sets (6-4, 6-1) and Jenny and Maria beat Helen and Nicky two sets to love (6-0, 6-0)

In the afternoon our winners from the ladies doubles were battling it out against each other in the singles final. Maria finally taking the match 7-5, 6-4

Over in the men's singles it was a case of Alex Brown v Spanish Alex (as we all know him) with our european compadre taking the match at 6-1, 7-5

The Steve Nannery Trophy Mixed Doubles final was postponed due to injuries. The finalists are: Nicky McRobert & Marek Wojtan vs Sarah Mathews & Ed Walters. We'll keep you posted about the match and results.

As no local celebrities were available to present the trophies, it was left to chairman Richard Scott to do the honours.

Lots of thanks must go to Anna Roubo, Louise James and Matthew White for organising the day as well as the championships throughout the year.

Together again... but on opposite sides of the net this time. Maria Lawton was the eventual winner in the Ladies Singles category.
