Packed weekend

It was a weekend packed with mens and ladies matches. Our Ladies A, Mens B and Mens C were all in action on Saturday. Kingsgate were the visitors for our ladies in Division 1 but without some of their star players. Summer and Nakshatra Sridhar teamed up to win 7-5 6-2 and 6-3 6-2. Janet and  Estella Hurlock took a little longer to record a 7-5 6-2 win against the 2nds and fight their way to a 10-6 tie break win against the 1sts.

Alongside the ladies, our Men's C team were taking on Knightwood. We'll report on that match as soon as we receive it.

Meanwhile over at Avondale our Men's B were enjoying the astro with a 4-0 win in Div 3 . Youngsters Joe Henbury and Harry Thomas played together for the first time but were hardly troubled with 6-0 6-3 and 6-2 6-1 victories. Dan Kwiatkowski and Richard Longworth survived a close first set 7-6 against the 1sts but breezed through the rest 6-0 and 6-3 6-2.

It was supposed to be a do or die relegation battle in the National Club League for our elite men against Wimborne on Sunday but a poor weather forecast saw the match rescheduled to July 4th. Our ladies B though , are made of sterner stuff , ignoring the threat of rain to travel to Winchester to play their C team. It couldn't have been much closer- literally ending in a draw on count back. Frankie Colling  and Christine Johnson bamboozled the opposition making short work of both pairs winning 6-0 6-3 and 6-1 6-3. It was a mirror image for our second pair Sheena Barker and youngster and future Thornden star Erin Perry. The consistency and experience of the opposition proved the difference on this occasion.

Next week it's a crucial Apsley A match against regular Premier League winners , Winchester. A win would keep us in the race for a first ever league title. And  down in  Wimborne on Sunday,  our boys will be fighting to stave off relegation from the National division of the National Club League.
