Mixed A and Mixed B were both in action today; Mixed B at David Lloyd Lordshill and Mixed A at Totton. Mixed A did a last minute steal of Janet from the B due to injury / lack of organisation.
Totton fielded a very strong team and with 1 conceded match and 1 lost match we needed to win this one to give us a chance of staying up in div 1. No pressure. Totton's 1s and 2s were equally good but we had Magda and Mats, Janet and Alex who played excellent tennis in the first round to only drop 6 games in total with Janet executing some brilliant volleys. In the second round Magda the Machine and Mats won 0 and 2 against the 1s but Janet and Alex unfortunately lost 8-10 in a 3rd set tie break after losing the first set 2-6 then winning the next 6-1; a topsey turvy match. The match was finished before any floodlights were needed and a lovely tea was provided in the clubhouse.
Meanwhile over at David Lloyd Lordshill, the Bs were all ready to play INSIDE only to find that reception had given Julie the wrong information and they were actually outdoors on clay! So outside it was! The clay courts were playing beautifully but it was very blustery with balls going all over the place. In round 1 Mark and Christine went 4-0 up and won the first set 6-2 and managed the same 6-2 in the second set even though that was a closer one. Steve and Julie had lots of deuces and long rallies but lost to a very strong pair. By round 2 it was getting windier! Mark and Christine but up a great battle but lost 2-6 5-7 to the 1sts but that was against the ex National 18s number 1 lady so pretty impressive!! Steve and Julie lost their first set but were up in the second when Steve hurt his knee - he laboured on eventually losing a tight 2nd set 5-7. So a close 3-1 loss for the Bs.
Sunday saw the men's C at home to South Hants. They had a great 7.5 to 1.5 win- hurray! Two tie break wins and a straight win for Chris and Tony . Stu G and Lindsay earnt themselves 3 straight set wins while 3rd pair Stu R and Jason did the job required with a win and a draw- perfect. Well done guys.
