This week was quiet. On Saturday the Ladies was at home to Southbourne, the Men’s A-TEAM was also at home but to Littleton, the Men’s Bees was away to Bassett A and the Men’s Cees was at Victoria Park. Photo: None. System is acting funny again.
I will start with the Men’s A-TEAM as I like to be positive at the beginning! They entertained Littleton but I can assure you the visitors felt anything but entertained. James Blair, Harry Dunnett, David Darrock, Alex Billingham and another couple of blokes (good ones apparently) had no mercy in denying Littleton any rubbers. When results arrive I will tell you more.
On the other three courts the Ladies had a less successful time. Abby Whatley & Connie Allen started with a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 win as Christine Johnson & Julie Kelly lost 3-16, 1-6 and Sue Wells & Pam Thompson lost 0-6, 0-6. Abby & Connie then won 6-4, 6-2 Christine & Julie lost 3-6, 2-6 and Sue & Pam lost 0-6, 0-6. Last round Abby & Connie lost 6-7, 0-6, Christine & Julie lost 0-6, 4-6 and Sue & Connie lost 3-6, 2-6. Still, considering the Collings were away and two other players pulled out in the morning we might say that it could have been oh so different if, the weather wasn’t so hot, the match was played on a different weekend, the wind was blowing and the balls were duff.
Away in Bassett the Bees was a less than happy outfit as the courts were rather unfit-for-purpose. Kees de Groot & Tom Vinnell managed to lose 6-7, 0-6, Phil Lawrence & Matt Pitman lost 0-6, 2-6, and Jon Saville & Dan Kwiatkowski lost 1-6, 1-6. It didn’t get much better in the second round as Kees & Tom lost 4-6, 5-7, Phil & Matt lost 4-6, 3-6 and Jon & Dan lost 5-7, 2-6. Final round Tom & Kees lost 4-6, 2-6, Phil & Matt lost 1-6, 0-6 and Jon & Dan lost 0-6, 0-6. Well on to the next match guys!
Also away, but in Victoria Park, the Men’s Cees was enjoying the sun. Cannot say more than that and that may be untrue as no results arrived again.
So those of you who couldn’t get in to the gig last night (a sell out) at the Arts House Café it was an absolute blast from the start to the finish. If you do not believe me ask Astrea and Estella who are still in shock. A fantastic show and totally blown into the sky by a wonderful audience who all lknew the words to “Travelman”.
Next week: and even quieter weekend: just Apsley Bs away to David Lloyd West End C: that is great as I am trying to fit in my life around a tour of the Home Counties! On the radio in Portsmouth Sunday morning, then Reading in the evening. That is apart from Bristol, Swindon and Bournemouth in the week: he does work hard my boy.
