Young Guns Topple Winchester and Windsor!

It was a triumphant weekend and I'm not talking about England's 4-0 victory over Ukraine! With an average age of approximately  19.3 years,  Thornden beat the mighty Winchester A in the Apsley Premier League 7-1 on Saturday , our 1st ever win against the multiple time league winners. There were straight set wins for James Blair and Magda Kornijczuk, James Ardley and Anna Vinnell and Milan Bharadia and Martyna Ciubatiuk but our firsts, Mats and Summer Colling, had to fight hard to overcome the Winchester 1st pair including the county number 1 lady. It was 4-6 6-4 6-4. So the quest for the premier trophy is still on with another big challenge, Warsash A on July 31st to come.

Summer , Magda, Anna and this time , Nakshatra Sridhar travelled to Windsor on Sunday to play the National Club League County tier play off for promotion to the Regional tier. Our girls were on form. The singles were a clean sweep with Summer, Magda, Anna and Nakshatra not dropping a set. In the doubles, Summer and Magda were hardly troubled with a 6-2 6-0 demolition job. Windsor's 2nd pair though , proved to be skilled in the art of doubles and gained some consolation , Anna and Nakshatra losing 2-6 4-6. Let's hope our youngsters will be around next year to keep Thornden winning in the Regional Tier of the National League.

If you were paying attention to the last report you will know our elite men were also due to play Wimborne on Sunday- the winner saving relegation from the National Tier. After warming up for the singles , the heavens opened and the match was abandoned for the second time!

Next Saturday it's our men's A at home against the Barry brothers of Riverside A, Men's B away to Winchester C, Ladies A at home to DL West End and Ladies B away to DL Nursling.
