A week that seemed to streak by and ended up with a glorious day for our Men’s Boyz to play at home to Littleton but was totally washed out on Saturday when the Mixed Cees was meant to play at home to Compton C. Photo Five sixths of the Boyz team at home to Littleton. Assume the one sixth was taking the photo.
The highlight of my week was the annual visit to the doctor’s surgery for a flu jab. This year was different with them handing out a leaflet to tell me that they were giving me flu but it wasn’t a proper flu. However there might be a few side-effects. The list started with Muscle Pain – yep got that, Headache – yep got that too, fatigue – yep and that: and that was the very common list. The Common had things like sweating (check), joint pain (check), fever, generally feeling unwell, shivering (check). In fact that lot were there before the jab so how was I to know if I had a side effect!
Right on to the tennis as that is an important part of this report. Nothing to report on Saturday as it chucked it down on Saturday and even the dog wouldn’t go out in the afternoon!
Sunday was gorgeous provided you wrapped up with an extra layer as the wind from the north was decidedly chilly. Matt Pickett & Jon Francis started out with a 6-1, 6-4 win while Chris Osbourne & Steve Thompson had to settle for a 4-6, 6-4 half (a very neat half too) and Slavek Kornijczuk & Jon Saville won 6-3, 6-1. Matt & JonF then won 6-3, 6-4, Chris & Steve dominated to win 6-0, 6-1 and Slavek & JonS won 6-3, 7-6(5). Last round was more of the same, Matt & JonF winning 6-3, 6-2, Chris & Steve taking a 6-1, 6-4 win and Slavek & JonS winning 6-1, 6-3.
The other news this week was about Shredders. A toddler trying to help his mom and dad in the USofA shred an envelope containing $1,000 – he put all their unwanted junk mail through the shredder so what do you expect him to do with an envelope lying about on the kitchen counter! Mind that was not as bad as the Banksy painting sold at auction that shred itself immediately after it had been sold for £1,000,000. Look, Christine, I do forgive you honest, and I won’t tell what happened to….
Next Week: Saturday 13th October: Girl’s 14s at home to Winchester and Mixed Bees away to Compton B. Sunday 14th October: Men’s “A-TEAM” at home to Bassett A. For those who need to know Thursday is Committee Meeting day.
Title: Charles Azvanour, 1970 (I wanted to use She, 1974, but the Mixed was cancelled or You’ve got to learn, 1962 – but the Boyz doing good so that didn’t apply either). I couldn’t find a Montserrat Caballe title that suited. Both sadly passed away this week.
