Winter mixed against the Big Guns of Warsash!

Thornden Mixed A team had a seasonal trip to Warsash today. There was no rain for the first time in days and the sun shone brightly.
We had a bit of a makeshift team. Harry Thomas and Estella Hurlock played at 1 and Alex Billingham and Frankie played at 2. As feared, Warsash had their big guns out : Liam (County No 1) and Isla Hignett at 1 and Ian Udal and Lauren Howard at 2. Harry and Estella played well together - their match went on for ages and the 6-2 6-2 loss doesn't reflect how close the rallies were. Alex played out of his skin against the 1s helping us to only lose 6-7 4-6 against a pair of county players. The sun, although welcome was pretty much blinding at one end which made some of the games pretty crazy especially when trying to return Liam's 100+ mph serve!
In the second round Harry and Estella had a walkover against the 1s as Isla was feeling poorly. Alex and Frankie lost 2-6 7-6 to the 2s so overall we were only 2 tiebreaks away from a draw overall.
The matches were played in good spirit and there was a delicious tea afterwards- homemade soup and other lovely home made cakes so Harry was happy. There opposition also had a really great dog as featured in the photo :)
Now it's time for the Christmas break from tennis- Merry Christmas everyone- see you in the New Year!
