Just one match to report this week which is just as well as I am off to the Big Smoke tomorrow: well it isn’t smoke now but was in 1964 I can assure you. So Apsley A playing Virgin David Lloyd Hampshire Club A team is what it is all about. Photo: Six-eighths the Apsley A team.
It was at 13:00 that our boys and girls assembled at Thornden. In #1 spot was Mats Colling and Dita Mezahorakova worked hard in a really close match but came out on the wrong side 6-7, 6-7. Dan Kviatkowski & Frankie didn’t really figure as they were thrashed 0-6, 2-6, Pete and Summer Colling had a really close match 4-6, 6-2, 5-7 and Anna Vinnell & Andy Bickerton won an extraordinary match 6-0, 5-7, 6-2.
The Ladies then did their thing with Dita & Summer losing a tight match 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 but Frankie & Anna winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 as the men matched the performance with Mats & Andy winning 6-4, 6-4 but Pete & Dan lost 4-6, 1-6. So we lost 3-5 but it could really have been much closer but for a few “might-have-beens”. If only Magda and James B were not on holiday!
Leon has played in Bristol, Reading, Southampton and Winchester this week and is off to London, with Dad in tow, tomorrow. Next week ends with the big one at Victorious Festival next Sunday/
So the title was a bit of a battle except I must say that Aretha Franklin was way ahead on the song front as, from what little I know, Kofi Annan isn’t perform professionally. Both sad events this week and was so pleased to see that the final song at the Art House “Three Monkeys” was a tribute to Aretha.
Lots of congratulations to Tom, Mats, James, Leon and any others I have missed who have anaged to make their University of choice in September.
Next week: Men’s Cs away to Winchester C. Remember that Final’s Day is Sunday 9th September so if you have not yet played your Knockout matches THERE ISN’T MUCH TIME LEFT!
Title: Aretha Franklin, 1967 (I was at University so it was extremely sad to see her passing away).
