Spring Newsletter 2020

Dear Tennis Players,

These are difficult times for all of us and you must all be wondering whether tennis of any sort will be possible for club members over the coming Summer. However, unfortunately, for the moment at least, all Club activity is curtailed and the courts are closed. LTA guidance as of 26th March refers to Government instructions and states that all facilities and courts should be closed with immediate effect. We had hoped that they might remain open for single household use but this is not the case.

We don't know when we might be past the peak of the epidemic, and when restrictions might be lifted, but probably it won't be for some months. When we are allowed to re-open the court, initially it is likely to be for limited use only and not for club nights or larger gatherings. Hopefully when we are past the worst we will have a better idea of when this might be.

Winter and Summer leagues

The winter league was curtailed early and the Summer league is postponed until further notice. Perhaps before the end of the summer we may be able to have some club nights and impromptu matches, but we will have to see how events unfold.

2020 Subscriptions

Renewals are now available for the coming season and may be accessed via the Uffington Club website and Club Spark. No cash or cheques please - we'd be really grateful if all payments could be made direct into the Club's Bank Account (details on the sign up page). Subscriptions remain the same as last year. Despite the current situation the Club is unable to offer a reduced subscription for the forthcoming year. We don't have large financial reserves and, therefore, it is imperative to ensure we have sufficient financial resources in the coming years to cover the costs of cleaning and resurfacing the courts and general maintenance. If we don't then the Club will no longer be able to operate, so I implore you to rejoin as you would normally, despite this period where we can't play. I very much hope we will be back out in force later in the summer.

Membership fees have been frozen from last year as follows: Under 11 £10.00, Junior/Student 11 to 21 or in full time education £15.00, Adult 21 & over £45.00, Family 2 adults & children under 18 £95.00. Please join via Clubspark.

So, not great news in this update I'm afraid, but no-one will be surprised by what I have said. As soon as we have anything more positive to report and we can start to play again, I will be straight back in touch with you all. Keep well and stay safe.
