Meet the Warwickshire Tennis Committee

Sally Jones- President

Sally Jones is a journalist and broadcaster, specialising in sport, news and education. She was the BBC’s first woman TV sports presenter and also presented Central News, BBC Olympic coverage, Woman’s Hour and Transworld Sport. She represented Warwickshire at junior and senior level from her early teens and captained Warwickshire Ladies throughout the 1990s including in 1997 when they won the County Week Group 1 Championship. During her time at Oxford University she captained the university’s tennis, squash and netball sides and also gained Blues for cricket and modern pentathlon. She was women’s world Real Tennis champion from 1993-95 and now uses her media experience to promote sports including tennis, Modern Pentathlon and Real Tennis.

Sherrie is Chairman of Warwickshire and is also a member of the Wimbledon Ticket Committee.

Colin Mercer - Vice Chairman and County Safeguarding Officer

Colin has had first hand experience in fund raising to develop facilities at Harbury Tennis Club. This has involved working with the Parish Council and many different funding agencies. Colin has taken on a second responsibility of helping clubs to access small loans from the County.

Alan Purnell – County Treasurer

Alan’s accountancy background and understanding of tennis makes him the perfect person for the Treasurer role. He spends many hours keeping spending to budget, investing funds and compiling yearly budget forecasts to the LTA. Alan is also the Treasurer of the International LTC of GB.

Graeme Baker - Warwickshire Seniors Organiser & County Training Co- Ordinator

Graeme has a wealth of experience from running a coaching team to developing new facilities at Rugby Tennis Club. He is a great asset to the County Management Team and also holds the further role of Warwickshire Seniors Organiser. Graeme is also the County Cup Training Coorindator.

Janet Keene - Minutes Secretary

Janet has been involved with tennis for many years as a tennis parent to one of our top county players. She has a wealth of knowledge and is an ideal person for the role. Most recently she has been attending Cardio Tennis at Warwick University.

I can't remember a time when I haven't been involved in tennis in some capacity: player, captain, tournament organiser, parent, committee member. Most of this during my more than 45 years as a Leamington member. I look forward to helping the county in the development of our wonderful game.

Holly Reid

I am a tennis player and have represented club, county and country on numerous occasions. I am also a tennis coach and enjoy supporting the development of those who love the game.

Sara Butler

Plays at Leamington TC in the 1st team.

Warwickshire County 50s Captain, represented England in the 4 Nations Tournament. Part of the Player Services Team at Wimbledon Qualifying and Main Draw.

Tony Supperstone

I am an active member of Claverdon tennis club where I have been the Treasurer for the last 10 years. I have played a few matches for the County vets team at over 65s.

2 of my children are full time tennis coaches, both having won the County Coach of the year award.

I feel that now is the right time to try to give something back to the County and help it retain its position as one of the strongest counties in the country.

Dr Charles Knill

I have participated in tennis activities in Warwickshire for almost 20 years, having previously been at The Edgbaston Priory Club (EPC) and Moseley Tennis Club, and am currently at Edgbaston Archery & Lawn Tennis Society (EALTS) and Sutton Coldfield Tennis Club. I served on the EALTS Management Committee (MC) for 15 years. For the last 5 years I have been a Trustee and MC Member of the Warwickshire Junior Tennis Foundation (WJTF), currently serving as Membership Secretary. I am committed to Warwickshire tennis and am looking forward to being actively involved in its ongoing journey.

Alison Isaacs - Warwickshire LTA Administrator

Alison is the Warwickshire LTA Administrator and works in the office at the Indoor Tennis Centre at Edgbaston Priory Club.
