Dates

22nd - 24th Nov 2024

Friday 22nd Nov

We were taking on Dorset and we knew this was going to be our toughest opponents going on the rankings.

Lucie, Sav and Tamara started first at 9.15am. Lucie had a great match fighting hard, just missing out on 2 tight sets. Savannah battled hard in the 1st set narrowly losing out but came back strong in the 2nd set to take it. It was a great 3rd set with Savannah taking it 6-4! Tamara had a tough 1st match with her opponent giving very few free points.

It was then the turn of Holly, Giorgie and Liz to battle it out. Liz and Giorgie managed to battle it out and won in close sets, unfortunately Holly couldn't quite secure the win but fought so hard.

So it was 3-3 going into the doubles.

We had Lucie and Kara, Sav and Tamara, liz and Holly. Giorgie unfortunately had a shoulder injury so was rested for doubles.

We went in strong and Sav and Tamara were a great team and won in 2 sets.

The other 2 doubles matches were extremely close and we just lost both on 2 championship tie breaks 😭😭

The ladies battled so hard on day 1 and were so close to getting the win! However, they didn't let that stop them on day 2 and came out strong!!!

Day 2

V Leicestershire

Unfortunately Giorgie was poorly so wasn't able to play on day 2.

We had Manisha and Lois come for day 2, which lifted the team after a tough day 1.

After the singles we were 6-0 up, thanks to wins from

Manisha

Holly

Liz

Tamara

Sav

Lois

Although 6-0 sounds like a whitewash, it definitely wasn't and the ladies battled so hard to get those wins!

For the doubles Tamara was rested and lucie came in.

Lucie/Lois, Manisha/Sav and Holly/Liz

Although we were 6-0 up we still wanted to win as many doubles matches as possible as we knew we may still have a chance of promotion and we needed to do all we could on our side.

Lucie and Lois came from a set down to take the match on a championship tie break and so did Holly and Liz. Lots of lessons learnt from day 1 on the tie breaks!

Day 3

East of Scotland

We were still positive after a clean sheet on day 2 (first time since 2016) that we could secure another win. Unfortunately an old injury for Manisha meant she couldn't play singles. Lucie stepped up and got off to a fantastic start against a tough opponent. Lois and Savannah also got off to a flying start, both winning the 1st set easily. However, we knew that things could change and the girls seemed to switch on and changed their games! Lois had some amazing rallies and managed to get a win. Savannah's opponent was more tricky and used lots of tactics to slow the game down, and was very up and down so not easy to get any rhythm! Unfortunately Savannah lost in 3 sets.

Tamara, Liz and Holly were on next. Tamara had a tough battle with a girl that was solid from the baseline and liked the hard hitting pace. Tamara managed to change her tactic for the 2nd set, narrowly losing 5-7.

Liz knew that she was going to have a battle on her hands, with a crafty/experienced lady that was a fantastic player. Liz dug deep and battled long points to win in 3 sets!

Holly was last on again but that didn't stop her, she had a bounce in her walk today and the opponent knew it! Holly winning comfortably in 2 sets!

We were ready to finish off Scotland in the doubles but we only needed Lucie and Lois to win the doubles to secure the win, which they did in amazing style! They battled to come from a set down to win on a championship tie break!!

5-2 win

Unfortunately it wasn't enough to secure promotion with Dorset winning their other 2 fixtures.

The ladies worked so hard over the weekend, learnt from their mistakes, changed their games, supported each other and did Warwickshire proud! It wasn't the result we wanted but we did get our first win since 2021 so its definitely a step in the right direction.
