Warwickshire Ladies O60s Match Report

Warwickshire ladies 60s suffered another defeat against Avon. Their 0-4 loss could have been so different if the three CTBs had swung the other way.

In all the matches Avon managed to weigh up our play by the second sets and then started to exploit Warwickshire's relative weak points. Margaret Simcox and Alison Gledhill started well against Susan Lock and Valerie Howes taking the first set. The Avon couple then seemed to settle on the foreign surface and their hard hitting took effect, sadly continuing to a convincing tie break win 5-7, 6-2, 1-0. Similarly Wendy Supperstone and Linda Clements looked to have the better of Yvonne Powell and Brigid Carr at the beginning but a similar pattern followed in the second set and CTB as the Avon pair put away the loose balls winning 4-6,6-3, 1-0.

Both pairs had given their all in the first rubbers and Wendy and Linda looked tired as they lost to the powerful first pair 4-6,2-6. Margaret and Alison started strongly but again the Avon second couple, Yvonne and Brigid, forced the errors by the second set as they cleverly moved Margaret and Alison around and on to the defensive. The final score was 2-6, 6-3, 1-0.

Great tennis and a very enjoyable match for all. A 0-4 loss really doesn't do our girls justice.
