Bidford-on-Avon A Team top of Division Three of the Wildmoor Summer League. L to R: (Capt) Colin Green, Chas Morley, Graham Reeves, Ian Roberts, Paul Crocombe & Malc. Dewsbury.

Week 5 of the Wildmoor Summer Tennis League, sponsored by Bannatyne Health Club & Spa and covering South Warwickshire and parts of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, saw a top of the table clash between leaders Alcester A and current champions Stratford-on-Avon. The 2-2 result meant that Alcester (18) stay top by two points. In contrast the match between third placed Pershore and fourth placed Littleton saw Pershore as clear 4-0 winners and not only opened up a 7 point gap with Littleton but saw Pershore ascend to equal second with Stratford on 16 points. Mid-table Chipping Campden (10) played Alcester B (7) who trailed them before the match by three points. Their 2-2 draw saw no change in their positions. In a final bottom of the table encounter Evesham entertained Henley-in-Arden. Their 2-2 draw were the first points scored by either team. However, since Henley had been docked two points from week 3, failing to turn out for a match, they remained on zero points.

It was a tale of two pairs in the Alcester A versus Stratford match. The Stratford first pairing of Max Hurtubise & William Morley-Cotterell managed to win both their rubbers defeating Alcester A pair Charlie Watson & Marcus Powell 7-5, 6-4 in a tight rubber. They then beat the second Alcester pairing of Stuart Beach & Barney Williams 6-2, 6-4. However, on the other court the second Stratford pair, Tim Page & Jeremy Simmons went down to Beach & Williams 0-6, 4-6 and then lost to Watson & Powell 0-6, 0-6.

Pershore proved too strong for the Littleton side with a comfortable 4-0 win. Matt Sime & Steve Bauer (Pershore) beat Sean Witheford & Ali Witheford (Littleton) 6-2, 6-4 and then beat Richard Herborn & Rosie Phillpot (Littleton) 6-0, 6-0. Jon Guppy & Charlie Crisp (Pershore) beat Herborn & Phillpot 6-1, 6-1 and then defeated Witheford & Witheford 6-3, 7-5.

Chipping Campden B played host to Alcester B, which resulted in a very hard-fought mid-table draw. Tom Partridge & Taylor Ferrier (Campden) beat Gareth Price & Matt Fielding (Alcester B) 7-5, 7-6, and then beat Pete Watson & Sam Thruston-nend (Alcester B) 7-6,   6-3. Tobias Kemp & George Richards (Campden) lost to Watson & Thruston-nend  5-7, 6-7 and lost to Price & Fielding 6-7, 5-7.

At the bottom of the table, Evesham took on Henley-in-Arden. The top Henley pairing of Tom Griffiths & Rob West took both their rubbers beating Paul Everatt & Simon Wall (Evesham) 6-4, 6-1 and then beating Andrew Crowther & Emmanuel Winstone (Evesham) 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 after a championship tie-break. On the other court Max Retallack & Carrick Waldron (Henley) lost to Crowther & Winstone 4-6, 2-6, and lost to Everatt & Wall 5-7, 5-7.

In Division One Ardencote Manor (15) stay top of the table in spite of being held to a 2-2 draw by third placed Moreton-in-Marsh (10). Redditch A (13) are second after they recorded a 4-0 defeat of Stratford B. Surprisingly for such a big club, Stratford B only turned up with one pair and are docked a point by the league for this offence leaving them on only 6 points. In a bottom of the division match Alcester C (6) managed a 3-1 win over Shipston-on-Stour (1). Fourth placed Claverdon (8) had no match this week.

Division Two saw Ardencote Manor A (15) pull away as clear leaders after they defeated Chipping Campden B (7) with an important 4-0 win, although two of the rubbers went to tie-breaks. Pershore B (14) dropped to second in spite of their 3-1 win over bottom side Henley B (5). Snitterfield (13) kept close on their heels with a 4-0 defeat of mid-table Ardencote B (10). Once again though Snitterfield only just took two of the rubbers after tie-breaks. Fourth side Warwick (11) were held to a 2-2 draw by the joint bottom side Claverdon B (5).

Bidford A (18) remained on top of Division Three thanks to a 4-0 victory over bottom placed Inkberrow C (4). Redditch B (13) defeated the penultimate team Evesham B (6) 3-1 to stay second. Shipston B (12) moved up to third following their 3-1 win over fourth placed Chipping Campden C (10). A final match between mid-table teams Inkberrow B (7) and Studley B (10) resulted in a 3-1 win for Studley which took them up to joint fourth place.

Division Four remained unchanged with Stratford C (20) retaining their lead at the top thanks to a 4-0 victory over Warwickshire County Council (6). Wildmoor A (16) stay second due to their 3-1 win over Aston Cantlow (11) who now drop to fourth. Tysoe (5) scored only their second set of points of the season with a good 2-2 Home draw against mid-table Moreton-in-Marsh B (8). Redditch C (12) moved up to third in the division after they recorded a comfortable 4-0 win over bottom side Bidford B (2) and in doing so overtake Cantlow.

Finally, in Division Five, Pershore C (18) stay top by a point enjoying a 4-0 victory over Moreton-in-Marsh C (8). Wildmoor B (17) are close behind after they recorded a 3-1 win over third placed Claverdon C (14). Littleton B (7) celebrated a 4-0 win at home to bottom side Shipston C (2). The two sides just above bottom met with the result that Wildmoor C (9) beat Henley C (3) by a score of 4-0. This win lifted Wildmoor C up to fourth in the table.
