Captains Report

On Friday, we were up against Nottinghamshire. We got off to a great start with some really dominating play from Tanishka, Georgie and Shennai. Lily wasn’t able to turn her match our way. Playing at No 3 at this level was really hard with still 3 more years in this age group. Alice & Jess won convincingly to take us 5-1 up. It was then a great achievement to take all three doubles. The partnerships looked really formidable.

Saturday was going to be another level up playing Bucks; Tanishka and Tess fought hard, but Bucks 5 & 6 were just too strong. Georgie performed brilliantly to win at 4 ! Shennai & Jess gave it their all & lost but Alice kept us in the match winning at 1. I thought we had a chance of taking 3 doubles having performed so well the day before within their partnerships. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Shennai and Sophia lost 12-10 in a champ tiebreak having come from  7-2 down. Georgie and Jess lost, but Georgie was struggling with a reoccurring shoulder injury which massively affected the result. In hindsight i should have rested Georgie in the dubs to give her a chance of playing the next day but hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Alice & Sophie V also lost so 7-2 Bucks.

Going into the final day we asked the girls which 6 would give it their all & compete really hard.
Losing Georgie was a big blow & we knew we just needed a couple of rubbers to stay in the group & for Notts to beat Bucks which was very unlikely but you never know in the world of tennis!
In the end Sophia E & Sophie V who were playing in their last county cup stepped up to the mark.
Along with Tess Beard who gave everything & won in 3 sets.Such an incredible performance.
Alice also got a win so we went into the doubles 4~2 down.
Ellie Buttermore playing in her first ever county cup played with Shennai who she regularly competes with in tournaments. They came so close losing in a champ tie break. Sophia played with Jess & also lost but Alice & Sophie V had their second doubles win of the weekend a set up in the 2nd & their opponents conceded but we will take the win! 6-3 loss.
Player of the Day Tess
Supporter Lily & Tanishka

Dorset were so strong & speaking to their Captain James White, 7 out of the 8 players train 3/4
times a week together which makes a huge difference.

We have a really young team & will only lose Sophia & Sophie. I’d like to thank them for all their efforts & i hope they continue to enjoy the game & compete, especially for their clubs in doubles & of course for Warwickshire ladies!
We really missed having T’nae in the team.
Bella Taylor was also missed due to injury.

Thank you Warwickshire for allowing us to stay on the Thursday night as a team and giving us the opportunity to take 10 of our players that regularly attend county training.
