Congratulations to all our players that entered. Your support has enabled us to host our first ever Padel Championships. Hopefully our first event of many!

The 1st Warwickshire County Championships took place at Solihull Arden Club on Saturday 24th August, with 12 Men's pairs and 2 Ladies pairs in action across the day. With the weather causing rain showers throughout the day, conditions were tough for players and spectators. The first matches started at 9am, with an epic battle on court 2 between Kenilworth pairing Tom and Jack Craig vs Mark Ainsworth and Luke Burnley from Solihull Arden. Mark and Luke just prevailed 7-6 7-5 in a competitive match which saw a selection of strong net play mixed with great defense.
Soon after, the rain came and play was suspended for 50 minutes. Once play started again, No.1 Seeds, Andrew Smith and Andrew Brigham arrived on Court 1, winning impressively against local Solihull players, 6-0 6-0 in under 30 minutes.
No.2 Seeds, Guy Pearson and James Southwood began their event against Solihull Arden members, Zach Hemmings and Nader Megahed, with Guy and James winning 6-3 6-1.
As we moved into the afternoon, the rain was holding off and our Semi Finals started. Guy and James worked well together to win 6-0 6-0 against Matt Alderson and Tony Eccleston to reach the final. Meanwhile, a competitive match between Andrew Smith + Andrew Brigham vs Luke Burnley + Mark Ainsworth took place.
Smith and Brigham winning 6-4 6-2.
The Final saw high quality padel with long rallies, and players using the glass walls to their advantage throughout. Pearson and Southwood took the 1st set 6-3. Moving into the 2nd set, Pearson and Southwood managed to get the break of serve they needed, however soon after, Smith and Brigham were able to break back when 5-2 down. After competitive rallies and a supportive crowd, Guy Pearson and James Southwood clinched the 2nd set 7-5, to become our 1st Warwickshire County Championships Winners.
To conclude the day, we had an all Solihull Arden Ladies Final which saw Kim Westman + Rachel Woolford take on Alessandra Tagliabue + Heather Truepenny. A strong display of padel, however it was Kim and Rachel who showed their high padel abilities winning 6-1 6-0.
A great day of Padel, which was well supported by the county and we hope grows in the coming years with Padel becoming an ever-more popular sport. Thank you to Solihull Arden Club for hosting the event and our competition team supporting too.
