Housebuilder serves a donation to Somerset tennis club
Persimmon Homes is to donate £1,000 to help a tennis club renovate its club house as part of the Community Champions initiative.
Wellington Tennis Club in Wellington, Somerset, applied for the cash as part of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme and the money is set to go on expanding the existing facilities.
The club has more than 100 members and needs more space after seeing a rapid increase in people participating in the game.
Sue Rackley, chairman of Wellington Tennis Club , said: “Wellington Tennis Club has seen a great demand for membership and as a result we need to improve our clubhouse to accommodate these growing numbers.
“We need to remove an interior wall to open out the space and create better storage cupboards. As well as this we need to replace wobbly furniture with a good second hand table, chairs and have a fridge to store food when we have to provide food for league matches.
“The donation by Persimmon Homes is greatly appreciated as it will go a long way to help our efforts.”
Nina Hester, sales director for Persimmon Homes South West, added: “The application from the Wellington Tennis Club impressed us and we wanted to help out as much as we could.
“It is clear they are at the heart of the community and they are the type of cause we look to aid through Community Champions.
“We had a lot of nominations through and it is always difficult to choose so I would urge any charity or organisation to get in touch and apply.”
The Persimmon Community Champions scheme is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.
