Nine doubles teams have entered this competition from the original deadline for entry set in October. It will operate until end March 2021. The Club Secretary is creating a WhatsApp group for participants. The opening order of the teams was done by ballot on Saturday, but its not too late to add yourselves to this if you want to %u2013 please contact the Club Secretary if you want to participate. The format will be the best of 15 games, and if tied after 14 games, a tiebreak should be used for game 15. Teams will be only be able to challenge up to two places above, playing only one match per week, with results posted on the WhatsApp group and also the Club email address Westfieldstennisclub@hotmail.com. START OF TEAM(S) TRAINING FOR 2021
Starting on Saturday morning 05 December 2020, and planned to be held every other Saturday until next spring, Club team(s) training sessions will be in place. Your Committee feel it important to develop the Club%u2019s general capability for teams to play in competitive inter-club play next year. We are hoping to enter Club teams in the Harrogate Div. 6 league, Darlington and District league, and also organise inter-club friendlies. Rob Hutchinson and Sam Cullen have kindly agreed to support and lead the club in helping develop members to play in these matches. Rob and the Committee have shortlisted 15-20 members thought to be capable of playing inter-club matches, and they will be contacted by email shortly and invited by Rob and the Club Secretary to participate in these training sessions. These groups will consist of a different mix of participants each session. A WhatsApp group to help manage this is being created for all shortlisted participants.
INTENDED GROUP DOUBLES COACHING SESSION
Unfortunately, due to his other coaching and personal commitments, Phil is not available to support this before Christmas. Hopefully we will be able to resurrect this programme now scheduled to take place in the New Year.
TOP COURT SUBSIDENCE
When cleaning the top court this weekend, we noticed the subsidence on the grass bank side of the court, has significantly deteriorated with parts of the fence also now leaning. The court is playable for the time being. We are urgently trying to establish what we need to do and how much it will cost to repair, but we think this will be significant. Any member who knows a professional third party who could help us assess this damage (e.g. a civil or groundwork%u2019s engineer) would be really appreciated. Please contact myself directly.
Finally just to point out this will be the final WTC newsletter to be published this year.
I wish to thank all members for their help and support this year, in what has been a particularly challenging and frustrating year for everybody but the Committee have tried to keep the Club running to the best of its abilities. Hopefully, next year things may be more normal for everybody.
Please go out and enjoy your tennis!
We send you our very best wishes for the festive season. Regards,
Phil Leahy, Chairman
On behalf of the WTC Committee
