The Mens and Ladies Aegon teams were back in action on Sunday (24th April) with the Men
away at Hoylake and the Ladies at home to Helsby.

The Mens team of Owen Tse, Ewan McMahon, Matt O’Connor and Adam Owen started strongly
in the singles despite the swirling wind on the Wirral with Adam taking a comfortable win while the
other three matches remained on court. Owen and Matt both went to match tie break third sets
with both of our players holding their nerve to come out on top, and with Ewan coming through a
close second set to win his singles match Widnes finished the singles 4-0 up.
The players went back on for the doubles with Matt and Adam racing through their match and
recording a straight sets win. Owen and Ewan had a good quality match against the Hoylake first
pair and despite having two set points in the first set and being a break up in the second set they
eventually went down to a very good doubles pair. Overall a successful result for the club winning

At a similar time the Ladies were underway at Widnes and got off to a flying start in the singles
with Amy Griffiths, Amy Redman and Lisa Lawton dropping just one game between them in their
six sets. Paula Griffiths was involved in a somewhat tighter match and went into a match tie break
third set after the first two sets were shared. Paula found renewed energy to edge ahead and take
the tie break giving Widnes a 4-0 lead after the singles round.

Onto the doubles and it was plain sailing for the two pairs, Amy Griffiths and Jenna Webster,
Amy Redman and Lisa Lawton, with both pairs winning their matches without dropping a game
and therefore completing a comprehensive 6-0 win for Widnes.

Well done to both teams who now have 2 wins from their opening 2 matches with the next round
of fixtures scheduled for Sunday 8th May, good luck to both teams as they go in search of their
third successive victories.
