We are excited to announce the new Mixed Singles Ladder at Woldingham Lawn Tennis Club. The ladder is open to all members aged 16 and over. Participants must register with the Competition Organiser before joining the ladder, and by participating, they agree to abide by the established rules.
The competition period runs for one year, beginning on November 3rd, 2025. Matches are conducted in a best-of-three sets format, featuring a 10-point match tiebreak instead of a third set, although players may mutually agree to play a full third set. While new balls are recommended, they are not mandatory unless both players consent. Players are responsible for booking their courts and self-umpiring their matches.
The ladder is structured as a ranked list, allowing players to challenge others who are up to two positions above them. For example, a player ranked 5th can challenge those ranked 4th or 3rd. If the lower-ranked player wins, they swap positions with the higher-ranked player, while the latter drops one spot, causing all other players to shift accordingly. However, winning against a lower-ranked player does not affect rankings.
Challenges can be issued through various methods, including phone, text, email, or in person. Players are encouraged to respond promptly and be flexible with scheduling. If a match isn't scheduled or played within three weeks of a challenge being issued, and reasonable progress hasn't been made, the organiser may either award a walkover or declare the challenge void based on the circumstances.
Please contact Kay (email midgeliu@hotmail.com or Mobile #0779417281) if you are interested in the singles tournament before 29th October 2025 with your email address and phone number (if under 18 please provide parents/guardians details), for match arrangements commencing beginning Nov. If you are interested and it is past the 29th October 2025, then don't worry, you'll still be able to join in and you'll have the challange of having to work your way up from the bottom of the ladder.
