Club News September

Finally the club house is here, and I hope you agree looking rather splendid. We plan to get some benches, folding chairs, solar power and a water cooler, and hopefully a gas stove and a BBQ. If you have any of these items going spare please let us know.

Tournament and club house opening: We will host a tournament on Sunday 2nd October, from 11am with mixed doubles and men's doubles competitions. We'll do a BBQ  and some drinks, please bring the family. More details to follow - but please reply if you'd like to enter, or if you're offering help!

Ashwell Show: Thanks for those who helped at the ashwell show on behalf of the tennis club. We will apply for funds for club house facilities from the show.

Club night: The Thursday night club session will move to Friday lunchtime from 1pm through the winter. There is an active WhatsApp group for this, please email if you'd like to be added.

Ladies group: There is an existing ladies coaching group on Friday mornings. In addition to this, we could do with another WhatsApp group more focussed on ladies wanting a casual game and potentially start another group session - if you're interested in joining a ladies group (or managing it) please let us know.

New gates: The new fence has a lockable gate to the outside and an open gate to the courts. Please use this new gate as the main entrance to the courts. The padlock is slightly fiddly: enter the standard combination and then press the button on the bottom. Can you please make sure you lock the gate and the car park gate when you leave. As the club house is in a locked are, we hope to leave it open.

Datchworth Autumn league: We have entered the autumn league for the first time. This is a friendly match against other village clubs in North Hertfordshire, with a team of 2 ladies and 2 gents, playing for about 2 hours on a Saturday from 1pm. If anyone want to be included in the whatsapp group to participate please let us know.  We need to work our way up from Division 8!

Committee: The commitee is short of someone to help organise social events  - although frankly any help appreciated! Thanks to Simon and the committee for finally getting the club house.

It's been a great tennis summer, I hope you've all been able to get down to the courts. Now that we have somewhere to get out of the rain and wind, lets hope we can keep going through the winter!
