Recycling our balls:  This is Tank the prison dog from HMP The Mount, saying thank you very much for donating our old balls.  As I'm sure you all know by now, there is a black bin for collecting these outside the club house.

External matches:  Final results from this season's Watford District League can be found under PLAY > MATCH FIXTURES.  All but one of our teams are remaining in the same division for next season with three teams, Ladies B, Mens B and Mixed A,  finishing third.

The fixtures for the new teams in the Aylesbury District Winter League can also be found on this page and also the Mens Vets.  There are also some junior matches planned for junior members: dates to follow.   https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/BovingdonFlaundenTennisClub/PLAY/Matchfixtures

Court use:  The work on resurfacing courts 1 - 3 is scheduled to begin on Monday 21st October for approximately 4 weeks.  We have looked very carefully at court use during this time and it will be monitored regularly.  Priority has been given to Saturday morning junior coaching, adult social tennis- Weds evenings, Saturday afternoons, Mens on Sunday mornings and any day time socials, followed by external matches.  Because only two courts will be available during this time, please note the following regarding Weds & Sat socials:

Weds evening social is available any time from 5pm - 9.30pm.  There is a Weds evening WhatsApp chat which can be used to organise timings.  Please let us know if you would like to be added to that.  We realise that most people cannot get there for 5pm and encourage people to turn up when they can and play later.

Sat afternoon social is available anytime from 1pm - 6pm.  For both these socials the format will be short sets- first to 4 games with sudden death deuces.  A reminder that when playing sudden death deuce, it is receivers choice, or, in mixed doubles the man serves to the man, lady to the lady.

We are also offering adult drills on Thursday evenings with Craig 8-9pm @ £7pp, max 8 people.  Please email rebrose11@sky.com if you are interested.  The court would then be available for an extra half hour @ £2 (for lights) if anyone wanted to continue playing.

With regards to Saturday junior coaching, the final session in the current 6 week block is 19th Oct.  We will be sending out a new schedule to juniors for the period that follows.

If you have any queries about court use during this period, please use the emaiil address above.

Club Champs Summary:  A really great tournament this year.  We greatly missed the Briggs family but at least we had some different winners this year :)  There were 68 matches played during the summer and everything seem to run very smoothly.  Finals day, despite being very long (I wonder why Jill!), was a huge success; a fantastic turn out including many of our earliest members who came to watch and we have had many emails thanking us and praising how far the club has come.   The results with photos can be found under PLAY > CLUB CHAMPS:

 https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/BovingdonFlaundenTennisClub/PLAY/ClubChamps

We are planning a Club Champs winners board to go inside the Clubhouse but still have a few gaps.  There will be a sheet going up so that people can fill in these gaps if anyone can remember.  Thanks for your help with this.

Ian is happy to run the tournament again next year, unless anyone else would like to take it on.  Please give him any feedback you have about this year:  for example, were you happy not having a BBQ this year?  We had plenty of food and it was much easier to organise, but what did you think?  We will be improving the way we collect and manage the entries next year so that no one gets missed.

Safeguarding update:  Making tennis safe and open to all

From 1 October 2019, all LTA Registered Venues will be required to meet six safeguarding standards as part of their LTA Venue Registration.

This is a positive move and one which will help support venues in creating a safe, accessible, enjoyable and welcoming environment for everyone.

This will include ensuring  all Level 3-5 coaches operating at our venue are LTA Accredited

What's in it for the club?

  • Knowledge that the club is playing its part in making our sport a safe, secure, accessible and welcoming environment for all.
  • Confidence that the club is meeting its duty of care obligations for those playing, socialising, working or volunteering at your venue.
  • Exclusive benefits – including access to the LTA Wimbledon Ballot; ClubSpark; Public Liability Insurance; and LTA funding support, programmes and initiatives.

The LTA will be conducting safeguarding support visits with to ensure the new safeguarding standards are being maintained.

If you have any questions on Safeguarding, please contact Colin Chamberlain Welfare officer, on 07958590923 or colin@cswfs.co.uk
