How to set up a Tennis net?

As you all know,  Courts 4 and 5 are multi-functional sports courts that we share with the Cambourne Netball club.  The Netball club has kindly agreed to remove the tennis nets and posts before each of their sessions and will leave them at the back of the court(s).  Our members are responsible for setting them up again before their tennis session

In this News item, we want to remind you how to set up the net posts and nets.

First, please watch the following video, which shows the correct procedure to set up a court from scratch.

The step-by-step procedure to set up our court is shown below:

To set up the tennis net you will  (ideally) need 2 people.

1. Carry the net posts to the centre of the court,  and insert them into their ground sockets. If the net cable tension prevents you from doing this,  you can temporarily detach the cable from the hook on one of the two posts (picture 1). Be careful that the cable end does not slide into the net band.

2. You need to make sure that the net cable feeds correctly into the winder mechanism in the other post ( as shown in image 2).

3. Make sure that the net cable is correctly positioned on the spool of the winding mechanism (picture 3). If the cable is too close to the internal cogwheel, there is a good chance that it will get stuck and jam the internal mechanism  (note that replacing a broken winding mechanism costs the club as much as a family membership).

5. Re-attach the Tennis Net Centre Strap to the court, using the swivel hook.

6.  Finally, the winding mechanism should be used to increase the tension carefully, continuously checking that the net cable does not get stuck in the mechanism.

The above procedure should take you less than 5 minutes.

If you are unsure or if you notice any damage to the nets, please ask another member for assistance and contact one of the committee members.

Thank you for your help in keeping our courts in good shape!
