This 50-minute Sponge Ball Development Class (SBDC) is designed for children aged 7–11. Children aged 7–8 joining the class should have completed at least one term in one of our SBDC programs. The class focuses on developing the coordination skills essential for tennis, using sponge (red, orange & green) balls and smaller-sized tennis courts. 

We always start with the fundamentals, including throwing, catching, ready positions, skipping, balance, running, stopping, and—for the youngest players—listening to instructions from a coach.

The LTA strongly recommends the use of sponge balls up to the age of 11, and the RPT in Spain even uses Red Sponge balls for adult beginners. Sponge Ball training helps players develop proper tennis strokes that will serve them for life.
