For the winter of 2024 / 25 Collingham Tennis Club entered our Mens 1st Team into the Dunlop Notts LTA Winter League 2024 – 25, starting in Division 10. A new season, a new league and a new format of Mens tennis for the club. We took 3 pairs to each match and there were 9 teams within a league. With each match consisting of 108 games which decides the result.
With spirits high we started the winter league with 8 teams to face, beginning back at the start of November against Woodthorpe 4 and coming out on top with a victory, 72 games to 36. This victory was followed by two more against Sutton in Ashfield 2’s and David Lloyd Nottingham 2’s with very similar score lines meaning at Christmas we had played 3 and won 3, sitting top of the table with 5 to play.
In the new year we continued our winning streak, this time playing Newark 3’s at home, winning 90 games to 18. Unfortunately, Ockbrook & Borrowash 2 decided to concede the match, leaving us at the top of the table from 5 matches. Then came 2 matches in short succession, away at Grantham, a familiar sight for some of the team which maybe gave us an advantage. Again we came away victorious, 73 games to 35. We took the drive to The Park in Nottingham, a beautifully laid out club, with over 7 courts albeit on a carpet type surface. Not wanting to disappoint we took the points home with a victory of 30-78.
This left us with one opposition left, who had also played 7 matches and won them, leaving us tied on points at the top of the table, but an advantage to Collingham on games, were Caunton 3’s. Our toughest opponent yet, but nevertheless we played our best tennis, taking a slightly different team to previous matches. We ended up drawing 3 out of the 9 sets, loosing 3 sets and winning 3 sets so it came down to the games, 59 games to 49 games, to Collingham. Meaning we came away with the win, topping the table, being undefeated in our first winter league season.
Not only have we topped the league table, we have also topped the player statistic’s table, with 5 out of the top 6 players in the league playing for Collingham Tennis Club.
