Another fabulous finals day at FLTC!

The inclement weather - it rained and had a spell of gale force wind! - could not stop our best players, young and old, from putting on a brilliant display of quality tennis.

This year, thanks to Bob Wilkie's organisational skills, with assistance from Allan Hendry and Tim Goldie who coordinated the Junior ties, we had a full day's worth of exciting finals, with the juniors playing throughout the day along with the seniors, making it a great family day and an inspiration for all to watch.

This year's Gents singles title went to Tim Goldie, his second time at grabbing the trophy and the Ladies singles was won by Naomi Branford. Both these champions are under 18 which is a positive sign that the club's junior programmes are helping to bring through some fantastic talent.

The full results are shown below - and as we now look back on the Championships - we're proud to say there were nearly seventy entrants aged from the under 12's to the over 60's who all played their best in competitive and friendly spirits - we know you all enjoyed yourselves and you are all a credit to your club.

The junior champs this year were given club tops and caps - we hope to see them worn with pride throughout the year.

Last but not least, we had the photographic eye of Sandy Crowe on court taking hundreds of fantastic shots (of the camera kind) - We've picked out a few of them to show below - but please go to our album at https://flic.kr/s/aHsm5jDyJd to see them all where you can also download your favourites.

Championships Match Report

Well done to all the juniors who played through the inclement weather and produced some very good tennis. Hopefully the juniors and their supportive families had a good time and we will all look forward to seeing them next year.

On to the senior members of the club who in some case are overshadowed by the skill of our junior members, more will be revealed when you read the results.

Starting with the mixed and over 55 doubles which started at 10:00 when the rain was light but the enthusiasm was high, everyone thinking this was going to be the best weather of the day.

At the end of these two matches Gary Barclay / Hope Allan won the mixed against James Thow / Margie Stevenson and Bobby McWilliam / Bob Wilkie won against Neil Ferrie / Robbie Sinclair

The Men's doubles ended up a ding dong battle when the rain and wind was at its worst this one went all the way to a championship tie break with Andy McLaren / Allan Hendry edging out Colin Marshall / Ewan Millar.

The ladies doubles provided Hope Allan with her second title, when along with Junior Lara Boyle, they won against Faith Mlilo / Katy Boyle (Lara's Mum).

Pick you partner doubles was a see-saw story 1-6 6-1 and cracking tie break ending with eventually winners Calum McRae / Andrew Taylor taking their first match point to win against David Fisher / Ruaridh Owens.

The singles competitions were where the juniors of the club came into their own.

First up Mark Christie won against Andy McLaren to pick up the plate trophy, we are all sure next year he will be a hot tip for gents singles title.

The ladies singles was Hope's 3rd Final of the day against another one of the clubs juniors Naomi Branford. Naomi won the final playing very steady tennis in difficult conditions.

Last but not least, winner of this years gents singles Tim Goldie, overcame David Fisher to pick up the trophy for the 2nd time in the last 3 years.

Great to see the club's teenagers winning the singles titles and we're looking forward to more juniors coming through over the next few years.

Nearly seventy members took part in the 11 competitions, many thanks to everyone, both club members and family members who support the FLTC Annual Championships.
