Linda received the Sporting Achievement Award, sponsored by exercise.co.uk.
She was nominated by her daughter Caroline who told my story of table tennis achievement over the past 63 years from playing on tv in 1962/63 in a national under 12s final. Holding the record since 1967 to date for the most County Junior appearances and earlier this year being awarded Vice President of Yorkshire Table Tennis Association for that achievement. Also in 1967 Sports Illustrated (the prestigious US sports magazine) wrote a feature about her and from that article two American GIs, who were going out to fight in the Vietnam war, wrote to her and asked her to be their pen pal. Linda was ranked number 1 in England at age 50 and 60 and has travelled all over Europe, Scandinavia and South America playing and won many competitions in the UK as well as Europe as a veteran, winning a bronze medal in Germany in the European championships in 2013. Linda has also represented and captained England veteran’s teams many times, winning several gold medals. She captained and played in the Yorkshire Veteran’s Premier Division team who won the division title for the first time in 18 years and she was given a Special Award by Yorkshire. Over the past few years she has volunteered at Racquets Club helping with junior coaching and the Parkinson’s Group. Recently became the first female President of Harrogate TTA since it was founded 98 years ago.
Well done Linda 👏
