Summer Tennis Leagues Halfway Update

The squad matches have started up again after a pause for the district tennis tournament which took place at the Club earlier this month.

I don't know what is in the air but we have suffered injury upon injury within the men's squad (no, not man flu). Shoulders, knees, calves are all giving out. We are looking to take the remaining functioning parts and create perfect (if fewer) players.

So to the results this last week as we hit the halfway point:

This Sunday, 14 June, both mens' squads were in action.

The firsts beat Starbeck 11-1 and sit 5th in the top division. Andy Calder and Adrian Walker stepped up and won all 3 of their games.
The seconds beat Copmanthorpe 8.5 v 3.5 and sit top of division 4. The squad is playing very well, ably captained by Graham Wild.

The Ladies had a tougher match losing to David Lloyd 2-7 .

In the Mixed Doubles the first team lost to division leaders David Lloyd Harrogate 72-36 and sit 4th in the top divisison. David Lloyd have a very strong squad and look like likely winners of the league. injuries have impacted on our squad.

The seconds beat Starbeck 81 v 27 and lie comfortably 5th. Fred has done a superb job of captaining the sqaud to strong results, even when losing players to the first squad.

The thirds beat Northallerton 71-37 and sit third in Divisison 3 within striking distance of the promotion spots. John Topping (calf) is our hobbling captain leading the charge.

The fourths beat Mashamshire 40-68 and sit third in Division 5 and, like their third team collegaues, are really well placed going in to the second half of the season. Jane Walker and Paul Stephenson led the way winning all 3 of their rubbers.
