Team Tennis Is Back!

Team tennis is back and it is lovely to see the camaraderie return. It has been a long time!

The season this year is a little different. To get us back playing again the Harrogate and District Tennis League unanimously voted for a more social season with no relegation or promotion at the end. There will of course still be winners and hopefully if our return to the 'new normal' goes to plan we will be able to have a celebration evening with trophies for the winning teams.

So the update on the first couple of weeks-

During week 1 of the new mixed doubles league, Racquets enjoyed an even start with one win, one loss and one match cancelled due to the rain.  The first team beat West Tanfield 66-42, but the seconds lost vs Ripon A 61-47.  The Ripon match was played indoors due to the heavy rain and finished past 11pm due to playing on two courts.  The third team's opening match vs Harlow will be re-played on Friday 28th May.

In Week 2, it is a rest week for the 2nd team.  The first team started off Week 2 with a unlucky loss at David Lloyd, the 2019 champions, by 46-62.  Racquets had to forfeit two rubbers due to injury but won the contested rubbers by 8 points.

The third team played on successive nights including their postponed match from the week before.  Despite losing both games, seven out of the 12 players made their debuts of which four were juniors.  What a great experience and all is set fair for the season ahead.

Well done to everyone who played
