Competition

Junior Tournaments

November has been a fantastic month for our juniors right across the club seeing tournaments for all sports and ages.

Badminton

The under 13 years event had 12 entries. The level of play is getting better and better every month! To see the children play competitively and really enjoy themselves is lovely. Winners were Eleanor Adrian-Horrocks, runner up a new member to our cub James Pacey and most improved was awarded to Scarlett Walmseley.

Table Tennis

12 players entered, all boys. The competition was fierce, the boys just love getting down to competitive play! The first round was four groups of 3, giving 4 winners and 4 runners up who were seeded into a knockout round. These early matches brought some great rallies in particular from our younger newer members – special mention to Leo Kirton who shone out this week. The overall winner -Tom Doyle, runner up Oscar Kirton.

Tennis

We have run 12 tennis, events all registered with the LTA which means we have had entries from across the region, York, Ripon, Hull, Spa, Newcastle, Darlington, Huddersfield and Durham. This presents our youngsters with a great opportunity to play new people at their own club!

5 of them were team challenge events where we have introduced them to the game of doubles. Starting them at 6 years old is great for our future mixed doubles teams ;)

5 were grade 6 LTA Tournaments bringing in a more structured level of competition.

Not only did we see some great competitive play, we heard lots of sporting banter, laughter and almost all of our older juniors have increased their LTA rating which is a fantastic achievement.

Well done to everyone that played. We look forward to seeing more competition in December with the tennis junior club championship and then in January with our usual monthly tournaments.
